How to Meet LGBTQ+ Singles in Las Vegas and Beyond
If you are wondering how to meet LGBTQ+ singles without spending every night swiping, you are in good company. A lot of queer folks love the apps for some things and are worn out by them for others. The guessing games. The profiles that never answer. Not knowing who is out, who is looking, or who is just browsing. The good news: there are plenty of ways to meet people face to face, and most of them build community at the same time.
This guide works for gay men, lesbians, bi, trans, nonbinary, queer and questioning folks. Use what fits you.
Start with community, not just dating
The strongest way to meet LGBTQ+ singles is to become part of the community you want to date in. When you show up regularly, people get to know you as a friend first. Friends introduce you to their friends. Before long, someone says, "You have to meet my buddy."
That approach takes the pressure off, too. You are not walking into a room hoping to find a partner. You are walking in to have a good time with your people, and dating becomes a happy side effect.
Where to meet LGBTQ+ singles in real life
- LGBTQ+ community centers. Many cities have one. They often host social groups, support groups, game nights, classes and events for every age.
- Pride events and festivals. Not just in June. Many cities have smaller events, film festivals, drag brunches and fundraisers all year.
- Queer sports leagues and clubs. Softball, kickball, bowling, volleyball, running and hiking groups. Teammates become friends fast.
- Book clubs, art groups and choirs. Look for LGBTQ+ chapters or queer-friendly groups.
- LGBTQ+ friendly bars and lounges. Especially on trivia, karaoke or game nights, when it is easier to talk.
- Volunteering. LGBTQ+ nonprofits, health organizations and youth programs always need help, and you meet people who care about the same things you do.
- Faith communities. Many affirming congregations welcome LGBTQ+ members with open arms.
How to meet LGBTQ+ singles in Las Vegas
Las Vegas has an active LGBTQ+ scene, and much of it lives off the Strip. Look for the local community center's calendar, Pride events and fundraisers through the year, queer sports leagues, drag shows and brunches, and LGBTQ+ friendly bars that host trivia and karaoke. Search by neighborhood and follow local organizations on social media, since smaller events are often posted there first.
And if you want a room where everyone is single and everyone came to meet LGBTQ+ people face to face, that is exactly why we created Pride Time speed dating in Las Vegas.
Use the apps smarter, not more
Apps can still be useful, especially in smaller towns. A few ways to make them work for you:
- Be clear in your profile. Say what you are looking for: dating, a relationship, friends, all of the above.
- Use real, recent photos. Including at least one doing something you love.
- Move to a call or a meet-up sooner. A short phone call tells you more than a week of messages.
- Set limits. Give yourself a time window each day so the apps do not take over your evenings.
- Stay safe. Meet in public, tell a friend, and get yourself there and home. Our article on LGBTQ+ dating safety goes deeper.
Make the first move with confidence
In a lot of queer spaces, people wait for someone else to go first. Be the one who says hello. A friendly opener works everywhere:
- Notice something they chose: a pin, a book, a great jacket. Compliment it sincerely.
- Ask an open question: "What brings you out tonight?" or "How long have you been on the team?"
- Listen for what lights them up, then ask more about that.
A specific, kind compliment is the heart of Dawn's compliment method. She teaches it at the start of every night, and you can read about it on our learn how to date page.
Be patient, and be yourself
Some people find their person fast. Others take a while. Keep showing up, keep being kind, and keep being exactly who you are. The right people are looking for the real you, not a polished version.
If you are still building confidence, or still figuring out who you are, that is part of the journey too. UR-Amazing.org is Dawn's self-help home for learning to love yourself, so someone else can love you more.
